Winds are gone for now, only to be replaced by warm temps and lots of crops being cut down. So whats it all mean you ask? Sloooooowwwww deer hunting. Not a whole lot moving out there. Saturday evening I did some scouting from the truck and did see decent numbers in cut fields and one big boy that stuck his head out of the corn on one of our properties that has shooter potential. The next best was Sunday morning when I sat an observation stand and saw a total of 11. Nine doe, 2 bucks and 20+ turkey. By observation stand, Im talking a stand in the middle of a field that does not often provide shots but gives you a view of wide open areas to see where the deer are moving. Its a good alternative to scouting on foot when conditions are poor and you want to stratagize for upcoming hunts. Plus I got turned around and sweated up when I went to put up my climber in a new spot at 4:30 am. It was the smart move to not screw up an area this close to go time and still be productive. Another positive note; LOTS OF TURKEY! Its going to be a good Thanksgiving! Good luck GRUBS! | |
