Finally got a chance to make a post here since last weekends hunt. I have been crazy trying to buy a new business and still sneak in a few days on stand. I had all kinds of action last weekend and managed a nice big mature corn donkey. I will get her posted this weekend when I get back out and get my camera back from my dad. Friday was my day. Dad and I went out and hunted two hedge rows that come together and seperate a wood lot, a corn field and a couple wheat fields. We pinched a corner about a hundred yards apart so we could do some spotting for eachother on the radios. About 5:30 Pops told me a couple came out of the woods and were heading my way through the corn behind me. Not five minutes later 8 came following my hedge row along the corn. They must have found some friends on the way. Four of them came right under me and I had the biggest lady of the bunch picked out. She must have looked up at me a half dozen times and I think I drew my bow equally that many times. Finally she stepped in a window and gave me my broadside quartered away shot at 12 yards. Nice! After I watched my arrow hit its mark she took off and the others scattered along with 10-15 others that were in the corn that I had never spotted. A couple came out in front of me and I was ready for another shot. Right about that time, about a hundred yards down my hedge row I saw my deer step out in a grassy area and she was wobbling and her side was covered red. By the time I could get to my binos, she stepped into some high grass and thats where I found her once I got down. I got all but the kill shot on tape. Bummer! The next couple days were more of the same. I saw a ton of deer and turkeys and unfortunately missed an 8 point. I will be back at it this Saturday and Sunday with Pops at my side. We got some cameras up on a couple scrapes I found, so we will see what happens. Great time. | |
